Don T Knock Twice 2017
The idea or story was an interesting one, but the movie flopped towards the end. The character building was left open, i didnt connected to the main characters, and therefore I wasn't too upset when things got scary. I'm glad I rented this instead of seeing this in the theater. If you scare easlily, you will like this movie. Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2017 Verified Purchase Great movie! Lots of scary scenes with the monster being ambiguous rather than in your face fake. They attempted at a deep story line with a twist at the end which made it great to watch all the way through. There was a few plot holes which didn't make sense but as far as horror movie plots go, this was excellently executed. Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2017 Verified Purchase This has been a movie sitting on my list of "too watch" for some time now, I have been avoiding it, because as the trailer made it look like it could be very good, it also was a trailer, that made me think. It could also turn out not so good.

I never would have thought the innocent sound of knuckles tapping against a wooden door would be so terrifying. I thought the foster/estranged parent story arc was good and went really far to creating tension and untrustworthiness between Jess and Chloe. The demon itself was horrifyingly emaciated and surreal. It seemed like it could just stretch itself from one end of the room to another without even trying like a sentient shadow. James took the Samara/Kayako idea, pulled and kneaded it, painted it black and created an even scarier entity. Final thoughts Don't Knock Twice is a spooky, twisted tale that combines several stories to satisfy several different genre fans. Unfortunately, those same plotlines made for a confusing tale, feeling more like they tried to force too many things into one script and didn't have time to explain it all. If you're a fan of the demon/ghost subgenre, then you will probably love Don't Knock Twice. If you aren't, you might not even bother knocking once.
February 9, 2017 While a substantial early portion of Don't Knock Twice may feel a bit familiar, it quickly finds its feet and settles into a nice spooky groove that fans of indie/import horror will be sure to appreciate. February 6, 2017 If it had skipped the clichd supernatural elements to instead concentrate on the relationship between the two central characters, Don't Knock Twice might have emerged as an interesting film. February 3, 2017 The makers of Don't Knock Twice never successfully flesh out their characters as people, leaving viewers to roll their eyes whenever characters open the wrong door. Watch carefully. Katee Sackhoff's performance in Don't Knock Twice is a silent cry to find projects worthy of her. February 2, 2017 Savor its clever annotations of feminist horror film theory. Or just enjoy the more visceral pleasures of fear. A warmed-over hash of "Candyman, " "Oculus, " "Insidious" and a half-dozen other spook-shows. Page 1 of 2
I'm not sure it's always necessary for a horror film to justify the surface pleasures of its scares & thrills by linking them to a dramatic metaphor. However, it can be frustrating when one comes close to achieving that dynamic without fully following through. The recent British ghost story Don't Knock Twice enters into the modern tradition of horror flicks with clear metaphors specifically centering on the anxieties of motherhood: The Babadook, Goodnight Mommy, most of XX, We Need to Talk About Kevin, etc. The frustrating thing is that it nearly succeeds in joining those incredible ranks with an entirely new angle on motherhood terror its peers had not yet represented, but falls just short of hitting that target. Ultimately, its demonic scares & familial drama hang separately in the spooky air, never joining forces to drive home its significance as an individual work. That kind if strength in metaphor is not entirely necessary for a modern horror film to feel worthwhile, but without it Don't Knock Twice struggles to feel substantial in any memorable way.

Jess and Chloe arrive home but find Ben missing. Tira is shown leaving the property covered in blood with Ben's dead body in the trunk of her car. The "Slave of Baba Yaga" symbol is shown on her chest. Jess informs Chloe that Boardman was the culprit, but Chloe reveals that while in the other world she saw Michael, and that he was indeed taken by Mary and fed to Baba Yaga and that Boardman was innocent. It's then that Jess realizes that Tira lied and tricked her into offering Boardman's life to Baba Yaga in order to transfer the demon to Jess. Jess is surprised by a sudden burning sensation from her necklace and realizes that she now has the mark of Baba Yaga. The room goes dark and there are two knocks at the door. As it opens, the figure of Baba Yaga reaching toward them is the last thing seen before the film ends. Cast [ edit] Katee Sackhoff as Jessica "Jess" Webb-Thomas* Lucy Boynton as Chloe Webb* Javier Botet as Ginger Special Nick Moran as Detective Boardman Jordan Bolger as Danny Pooneh Hajimohammadi as Tira Richard Mylan as Ben Thomas* Ania Marson as young Mary Aminov Note: Their surnames are revealed in the video game adaptation.
Now, if the film had continued from there as a straight up paranormal escapade, it might not have won any awards but at least it would have been a successful, satisfying story. Instead, Don't Knock Twice becomes a murder mystery, with the witch and her demonic ghost jumping back and forth between evil entities and ethereal Scooby Doos. At least, I think they were two separate beings, but maybe I missed something. I'm still confused by the ending. I don't want to post any spoilers in here, but if someone wants to give me an explanation in the comments, I'll give them a cookie. There were some really cool bits about Don't Knock Twice, however. First off, I love the way Jess' dream sequence ended with her head on the pillow. That was a really clever way of letting us know what was going on without the obligatory "gasp and sit up in bed" scene that we usually get. The whole door and knocking motif was also pretty imaginative. There are doors everywhere – who knows what will be behind them?
James brought back The Machine's John Giwa-Amu and Claire Moorsom (Hush 2008) to produce. The haunting music for the film was composed by Steve Moore ( V/H/S 2 2013) and James Edward Barker ( The Human Centipede II 2011) while the FX were created by the Real FX team led by Danny Hargreaves ( Doctor Who TV series). The official synopsis: A mother desperate to reconnect with her troubled daughter becomes embroiled in the urban legend of a demonic witch. The movie starts with Jess (Sackhoff), an American artist living in the UK, as she tries to get custody of her teenage daughter, Chloe (Boynton), who has been in foster care since Jess gave her up years previous due to a serious drug addiction. Now that she's stable and well off (she's got a successful sculpting business and she's married to a banker (Mylan)), she thinks she's up to the challenge of raising her daughter. Chloe, who feels abandoned by her mother, thinks the whole thing is a crock and is waiting for the shit to hit the fan.
Other than that it's pretty creepy. Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2017 Verified Purchase Phew. Okay. First off, if you love a great thriller/spooky haunting story, then this is exactly what you need to watch. HOWEVER: If you are not down with a B- ending (Read: No solid close), then you still need to watch this but be advised of what I mentioned regarding the ending. This was an awesome movie that had me on the edge of my seat for the majority. The special effects were completely A+, as well as a solid story and great acting. Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2020 Verified Purchase I think Hollywood doesn't give two genre's their fair due: comedies and horror. It is incredibly difficult to make a truly good funny movie and a truly scary pecially the kind you want to see again and again. This is one you want to see again and again! IT SCARES MY DAUGHTER! (NO spoilers here! ). You have to watch it yourself, Bwahahahahahahaha! Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2017 Verified Purchase Good movie.
To the film's credit, it ends on a terrific shocker that elevates the film above many of the films of similar tone and story. Full of surprises, great performances, and creepy tone, Don't Knock Twice is a solid entry for 2017. What Have You Been Watching: John Wick Chapter 2 (2017) "Somebody, please, get this man…a gun! " Laurence Fishburne as the Bowery King decides to aid Keanu Reeve's John Wick as he faces every hit-man in New York. The action is incredible, the violence is poetic, and the film is never shy to splatter blood about, liberally. While not technically a horror film in any sense of the word, John Wick Chapter 2 certainly appeals to horror film aficionado's sense of cinematic joy. This film delivers straight up action and mayhem and should not be missed.
